Another creative chapter was added to the portfolio of the youth team of the Cultural Association Selianitika Ilios, through its participation in the Erasmus+ project titled «ActiveU» (project code: 2024-1-BG01-KA153-YOU-000234647), which took place in Bansko, Bulgaria, from June 26 to July 6, 2025.

The three-member Greek delegation proudly represented both the Municipality of Aigialeia and Greece, participating in a multicultural environment alongside young people from seven countries: Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Lithuania, Romania, and Germany. The project's theme focused on promoting healthy lifestyles and using digital tools to support them.

The first days of the program were dedicated to team bonding through ice-breaker games and cooperation challenges (such as “Mission Impossible”). A special moment was the presentation of the association’s work during the NGO Market, where its local initiatives were showcased and networking with other European organizations was promoted.

The Greek participants presented a promotional video, spoke about the history, identity, and cultural characteristics of the Municipality of Aigialeia, highlighted aspects of Greek tradition, performed traditional dances, and offered local products such as authentic Corinthian raisins, which left a strong impression on the other participants.

During the program, the young participants analyzed the current reality in their respective countries regarding physical activity and the impact of technology on daily life. A shared conclusion emerged: despite cultural differences, challenges are similar everywhere, with excessive use of social media and psychological stress identified as the most common obstacles.

As a response, several digital applications were introduced as tools to promote healthier habits and support well-being, including:

  • HABITICA
  • FABULOUS
  • YAZIO
  • SWEATCOIN
  • MYFITNESSPAL
  • CLUE

The participants connected with nature through activities held in the forests of Bansko, combining physical exercise, yoga, and breathing techniques for stress relief. They also engaged in brainstorming sessions to develop collaborative ideas.

The highlight of the program was the organization of a public event in Bansko’s central square promoting an active lifestyle. The young people were in charge of planning, poster creation, promotion, and activity design, and also shared tips on healthy nutrition. The event included games for all ages and attracted broad public participation.

The experience concluded with an online conference, during which the project results and experiences were presented to invited guests, further promoting the Erasmus+ program and encouraging greater youth involvement.

A particularly enriching part of the program was the Intercultural Nights, where each country showcased its cultural heritage through traditional dances, customs, foods, and stories — strengthening mutual understanding and respect for diversity.

A notable achievement for the Greek team was that all three members of the delegation were officially certified as youth workers, recognizing their active participation and personal development throughout the program.

Looking ahead, the Cultural Association Selianitika Ilios is already preparing for its next international youth projects:

  • In October, a new delegation will return to Bansko to participate in a youth exchange activity.
  • In November, the association will take part in a training course in Poland, further enhancing its network, knowledge base, and international youth cooperation.

The association’s continuous participation in European programs is a vivid example of how local action can become a global experience, empowering youth and proudly showcasing the cultural heritage of our region. In the coming months, the association also plans to organize a public dissemination event, during which the participating youth will present the results and outcomes of the project to the local community.
